It reads: "The specimen collection sessions, which are free and provided on a first come first serve basis, are scheduled to take place on Mondays and Thursdays through the rest of June from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All that’s needed is a form of identification. The pop-up is the first not-for-profit testing site Hamden has set in motion since the pandemic started. Nurses and administrative staff from Hill Health Center worked out of two tents located at the Keefe Community Center in southern Hamden. In their first four hours, the nurses tested a total of 81 people, who should be able to get their results within two to five days." New Haven – The Cornell Scott-Health Center today announced an infusion of $50,000 in grant funding to support ongoing frontline efforts to meet the healthcare needs of Greater New Haven communities hard hit by COVID-19. The health center, which has 24 locations in four municipalities throughout Greater New Haven, was among 518 federally qualified health centers to receive funding this week from Direct Relief, an international humanitarian aid organization, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers. The grants were awarded through a $25 million COVID-19 Fund for Community Health, which recognizes the profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on community health centers, including their patients and resources. “We are extremely grateful for this timely boost,” CEO Michael Taylor said. “Our services and our role as a trusted and compassionate care provider have never been more critical in the communities we serve.” He said, “We are also thankful to the donors who make these grant funds possible, the ongoing support of our many community partners, and the tireless dedication and heroism of our staff at Cornell Scott.” The grant will be used to offset expenses incurred for emergency operations related to the pandemic, including staff costs and support, and patient safety measures and expanded care for medically vulnerable patients such as the elderly and homeless. Other expenses covered under the grant include unreimbursed patient care, expanded telehealth services and COVID-19 testing. The health center which serves nearly 35,000 patients a year, is conducting medical visits through their Tele-Health System. It is also offering COVID-19 testing.
